Life moves fastโ€”especially for mothers juggling life. Here in our home I juggle homestead chores, homeschooling, meals to cook, laundry to fold, animals to feed, and a home full of little blessings who need us from sunrise to sundown. Some days it feels like there’s barely room to breathe, let alone carve out time to nurture our relationship with God.

Yet, He should be the very center of our day.

For a long time, I wondered how a busy mom is supposed to squeeze it all in. Where does Christ fit between breakfast and bedtime? Over time, I found three simple daily habitsโ€”small, gentle, doable practicesโ€”that deepened my connection with God and brought peace into my home and heart.

These habits donโ€™t require perfection. Only willingness.

Pray

1. Prayer โ€” A Quiet Conversation With Heaven

Prayer is where my day both begins and ends. Itโ€™s where I lay every weakness at His feet and ask for strength. Itโ€™s where I ask forgiveness, give thanks, and share the private pieces of my heart I canโ€™t voice anywhere else.

Talking with God doesnโ€™t need to be fancy or long. It simply needs to be real.

He cares about your fears, needs, hopes, joys, and all the small victories you tuck away between dishes and diaper changes. Prayer invites peace into chaos and turns our hearts toward Him. Even a prayer whispered while stirring breakfast can lift and strengthen us.

God is always ready to listenโ€”morning, night, and all the in-between moments. Find a quiet pause, breathe deeply, and let Him in.

2. Scriptures โ€” A Still Place to Hear His Voice

After prayer, I open my scripturesโ€”even if it’s just for a few verses. Some mornings I read a chapter, other days only a scripture or two. The quantity doesnโ€™t matter. The intention does.

I highlight words that touch my heart, scribble thoughts in the margins, reflect, ponder, and listen. Scripture study is one of the most powerful ways for God to answer our prayers, calm our worries, and refine us from the inside out.

Slow down and breathe. Take the moments in.
Be still and trust in Him.
Listen to the still small voice and then go and do.

3. Gratitude Journaling โ€” Seeing God in Every Good Thing

This practice has changed me more than I expected. Each night, before bed, I write down the good things that happened that dayโ€”big or small. In the beginning my list was short. But day by day, it grew. My heart grew with it.

Instead of seeing the hard and miserable parts of my life, I began to see blessings.

I noticed all the good God had given me. My day was filled with peace more often.
I became a calmer motherโ€”more patient, more thankful, more present.

Gratitude softens the heart, clears the mind, and invites light into even the hardest days.

Bonus Habit โ€” Rise With the Quiet

My favorite time with the Lord is before anyone else is awake. The house is still, the sky soft, and peace settles like dew across the morning. Thirty minutes of silence with Godโ€”scriptures open, prayer in my heartโ€”prepares me for whatever the day brings.

If you can, try rising before the world stirs.
It is a sacred kind of calm.

A Gentle Encouragement

I pray these small daily habits help strengthen your relationship with God the way they have strengthened mine. Growth takes time, and building a habit doesnโ€™t happen overnightโ€”be patient with yourself. Show up with a willing heart, even on the messy days.

God is near.
He will meet you where you are.
And He will walk with you every step forward.

  1. So many times our overwhelm as mamas stems from neglecting the basics or simply sacrificing ourselves to serve our family. However, this is a non-negotiable for a “sweet mama” who wants to flourish. Great reminder!

  2. I too love my quiet early morning moments with God and then seeing him show up during the day. Beautiful post.

  3. This is a beautiful article! It really strikes a chord as I’m trying to find ways to make more time for god. My favorite time is the early morning before anything else, and praying throughout the day. Thank you for the ideas here and I love your idea of journaling. That’s something I need to try. I’m not very good with such things, but as you say, it can become a habit after a while.

  4. God has really grown my love for spending time in His word and my prayer life, but I think a gratitude journal would be a perfect next step! Thanks for the tips!
