Our Story

My name is Samara, and this is the story of our family’s journey back to the old ways—rooted in faith, family, and a simple Nordic-inspired life built slowly by hand.

Sweet Momma’s Farm began long before we ever owned sheep or planted a garden. It began through hardship, healing, and the quiet ways God calls us home.

I grew up as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and remain deeply rooted in my faith in Jesus Christ. My faith has carried me through seasons of joy, uncertainty, loss, and restoration, and it remains the foundation of everything we are building here.

A Different Kind of Motherhood

When I was younger, I imagined motherhood would look a certain way—a busy home full of children running between sports and activities. Our home is still loud, joyful, and wonderfully chaotic, though not in the way I once expected.

My husband and I met in college, and after our first child was born, I became a stay-at-home mother while still trying to pursue my lifelong dream of coaching. For years I held tightly to my old dream, believing it was the path I was meant to follow. But slowly, through many difficult experiences, God began leading me somewhere different.

It was not an easy season. Letting go of the life I imagined felt painful at times, but it taught me humility, patience, and trust in the Lord’s plan.

Learning the Old Ways

While we were trying to grow our family, I started learning simple homemaking skills—gardening, preserving food, sewing, and cooking more from scratch. Then the COVID-19 pandemic happened, and like many others, we realized how dependent we had become on grocery stores and modern conveniences.

That realization changed everything for us.

I found myself drawn toward the old ways of living—toward slower rhythms, traditional skills, and the wisdom our Nordic ancestors once carried. What started as curiosity soon became a calling.

Around the same time, after struggling to have more children, we began pursuing adoption. Wanting to help raise funds, I started sewing and creating handmade goods to sell. Over the years, sewing became more than just a way to help financially—it became part of the heart of our home. Much of the clothing my daughter and I wear has been sewn by hand, stitch by stitch, with love and intention.

Health Challenges, Autoimmune Healing & Turning Back to God

Then life tested me again. Extreme stress led to a serious illness that triggered an autoimmune disease. It was hard, but in hindsight, a blessing in disguise. During this time, we also started a little homestead. Through it all, God helped me discover something extraordinary about motherhood and marriage that He wanted me to learn. I wish I’d realized it sooner. Because of this revelation, I stopped chasing a worldly dream and chose to fully embrace the divine role He gave me.

Not only did God reveal my purpose, but He also led me to an herbalist who helped me heal with herbs and a better diet. Once I was healed from my autoimmune, we began a path toward healing that gave us hope to grow our family again.

Sweet Momma’s Farm: Our Nordic-Inspired Homestead Life

With this renewed strength, we started to grow our little homestead—named after our favorite and first Icelandic sheep, Sweet Momma. She truly runs the show! With help from our animals, I now make my own soap, shampoo, body butter, yogurt, cheese, cleaning supplies, and so much more.

Walking Through Miscarriage With Faith & Hope

We know infertility is hard. We know miscarriages are heartbreaking and, at times, can feel unbearable.

I share this because I know many women quietly carry similar grief.

Even in loss, we have seen God’s hand in our lives. After eight long years of being told nothing was wrong, we finally received answers that helped us begin truly healing our bodies and gave us hope that our family could continue to grow. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, which has only deepened our desire to learn the old ways and live more intentionally. Not all progress is good. Sometimes the old ways truly are better and more healing.

We believe healing is continuing, hope remains, and our story is still unfolding. Our family is growing in many ways—not only through the animals that fill our fields, but through faith, love, and the life we are building together.

Why I Write & What You’ll Find Here

These years have taught us so much—about faith, humility, rThese years have taught us so much—about faith, humility, resilience, connection to the land, and the beauty of living simply. Through Sweet Momma’s Farm, my hope is to share the things we’ve learned along the way and create products made with the same care, ingredients, and values we trust in our own home.

Everything we make and share comes from a desire to return to the old ways—slower living, honest ingredients, hardworking hands, and a home centered on faith and family. Whether it’s something written on the blog, baked in the kitchen, grown on the farm, or handcrafted in small batches, we want it to feel thoughtful, trustworthy, and rooted in purpose.

On the blog, I share:
