Clean + Natural Fall Home Scents

Please Share!

There’s just something about fall that makes me want to cozy up the whole house. The air turns crisp, the leaves start to crunch, and suddenly I want everything to smell like warm cinnamon and baked apples. But if you’re like me, you don’t love the strong, artificial scents that come with most candles and sprays. I’d rather have natural fall home scents — the kind that feel inviting, not overpowering.

So, let’s talk about a few simple, natural fall home scents— without any chemicals, fake fragrances, or headache-inducing sprays.

1. Simmer Pots

This is hands-down my favorite way to make the house smell amazing. It’s quick, cozy, and you can make it with whatever you already have in the kitchen.

Here’s my go-to combo:

  • 1 apple (sliced)
  • 1 orange (sliced or just orange peels)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • A sprinkle of cloves
  • A dash of vanilla extract

Just toss everything into a pot of water, bring it to a boil, then lower the heat to a gentle simmer. Your house will smell like spiced apple cider in no time! Check on the pot every 30-60 minutes to refill with water.

Reuse ingredients by placing them in the fridge overnight. You can do this for 2-3 days.

Tip: You can switch it up with cranberries, nutmeg, or even pine sprigs for a more woodsy scent.

2. Essential Oil Diffusers

If you love essential oils, this is such a clean and easy way to bring fall into your home. You can make your own cozy blend — here are a few of my favorites:

Warm + Cozy Blend

  • 3 drops cinnamon
  • 2 drops clove
  • 2 drops orange

Crisp Fall Morning Blend

  • 3 drops cedarwood
  • 2 drops eucalyptus
  • 2 drops bergamot

Sweet Pumpkin Spice Blend

  • 3 drops vanilla
  • 2 drops nutmeg
  • 2 drops ginger
  • 1 drop cinnamon

Diffuse these in the kitchen, living room, or even your entryway — it makes the whole home feel inviting and seasonal.

3. Natural Candles

If you love candles (and who doesn’t in fall?), look for ones made with soy wax, beeswax, or coconut wax and pure essential oils instead of synthetic fragrance oils. They burn cleaner and don’t release toxins into the air.

I love making my own simple beeswax candles — they have a light, honey-like scent on their own, and you can add a few drops of your favorite fall oils for a touch of cozy.

4. Dried Citrus + Spice Garlands

If you want something decorative and fragrant, try drying orange or apple slices in the oven and stringing them up with cinnamon sticks and star anise. They’re beautiful, rustic, and smell like fall every time you walk by.

To dry oranges:
Slice them thin, lay them on parchment paper, and bake at 200°F for 2–3 hours, flipping halfway through. Once cooled, string them with twine or ribbon — instant fall charm!

5. Bake Something (Seriously!)

One of the best natural air fresheners? A warm batch of something baking in the oven. Pumpkin bread, apple crisp, or cinnamon rolls not only make your house smell heavenly, but you also get to eat the results — which I call a win-win!

6. Fresh Air + Natural Elements

Even with all the fall scents, don’t underestimate a good fall breeze. Crack open a few windows when the air is cool and crisp — it refreshes the whole house and keeps things from feeling stuffy.
You can also bring the outdoors in with pinecones, cedar branches, or dried herbs — they add a natural fragrance that blends perfectly with everything else.

Final Thoughts

Making your home smell like fall doesn’t have to mean lighting a dozen artificial candles or spraying synthetic scents. The natural ingredients God gave us — fruit, herbs, spices, and a little creativity — are more than enough.

I love that these simple things make our home feel warm and inviting without adding extra chemicals into our space. Plus, there’s something really peaceful about creating cozy scents from scratch — it’s a small way of slowing down and enjoying the beauty of the season.

So grab your cinnamon sticks, slice up some apples, and let’s make our homes smell like fall — naturally.
